Elsie Mae Jensen, 83, of Broken Bow passed away January 18, 2011 at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow, NE.
She was born July 30, 1927 to John Orval "Lefty" Wright and Janice (Agee) Wright, at the home of Chris and Ogal Christensen in Berwyn, NE. (Twin sister of her father.) She lived with her grandmother, Rosa Belle Wright, and attended school in Berwyn from 3rd grade until she graduated in 1945.
She was united in marriage to Edwin Duane Jensen on May 7, 1946 in Glendale, California. They returned to Broken Bow, Nebraska to make their home. Born to this union were Patricia Elaine and twin boys Terry Orval and Jerry Pete.
For 35 years, Elsie worked as an elementary school secretary and school lunch coordinator for Broken Bow Public Schools. She was well known for her collection of thousands of elephants and many were blessed to receive her crochet work. She never missed an opportunity to entertain others and play a game of cards. She was active in her church and her women’s groups.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eddie, daughter Patty Loy, son-in-law Wayne Loy, and a brother Richard Wright.
Survivors include sons Terry Jensen and wife Bev of Broken Bow, NE; Jerry Jensen and fiancé Kathy Mead of Grand Island, NE; nine grandchildren: Laurie Kuskie and husband Jason of Broken Bow, NE; Lisa Schlueter and husband Brad of Wood Lake, NE; Chris Jensen and wife Stephanie of Spring Branch, TX; Lindsay Ludden and husband KC of Omaha, NE; Tim Loy and wife Jodi of Berwyn, NE; Brad Loy and wife Diane of Madrid, NE; Tyce Jensen and wife Bethany of Dallas, TX; Lindie Patterson and husband Adam of Renton, WA; and James Jensen of Omaha, NE, and eighteen great-grandchildren
Funeral services will be held Friday January 21, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the United Methodist Church in Broken Bo with Reverend Todd Karges and Reverend Larry DeMoss Officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held Thursday January 20 10 AM to 8 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary with the family greeting friends 6:30 PM to 8 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary. Memorials have been established to the Broken Bow Chamber Beautification Fund, the Custer County Children’s Fund, or the Donor’s Choice.
