Richard Troxel

Richard Ray Troxel 75 Richard Ray Troxel was born in a sod house west of Sargent on May 16, 1935. He was the second son of Sam and Sadie (Mason) Troxel. He died on February 19, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Broken Bow from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Rich worked on ranches in the Sandhills before going to the Army. After serving at Fort Lewis in Washington State, Rich returned to the Brownlee area until getting married to Vicki Lawlis in 1961. Rich and Vicki had four children: Tim, Ann, Ben, and Jim. They farmed in the Merna area from 1961 until 1978 until moving west of Westerville to farm from 1978 until 1994. After leaving the farm, he moved to Ansley and had a fence contracting business for several years. A motorcycle accident that broke three ribs and his collarbone forced Rich into retirement in 2002. Rich moved to Off Broadway Assisted Living in 2009 and later moved on to Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. Rich enjoyed the soft ice cream machine at Off Broadway and thought the food at Golden Living was great. Rich enjoyed the simple things in life. He liked to play horseshoes, shoot pool, and have coffee with his friends. He liked straight fences, tight gates and good cattle. He didn’t care for anyone to ride his horse, work his dog, or use his tools. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Plin Samuel and Sarah Jane Troxel, and a son, Jim Richard Troxel. He is survived by two sons, Tim and Carolyn Troxel of Broken Bow, and Ben and Roxane Troxel of Ainsworth; one daughter, Ann and John Dockweiler of Chadron; and daughter-in-law, Valerie Troxel of Houston, Texas. Rich also leaves eight grandchildren: Sam and Sidney Troxel of Broken Bow; Thomas, Colton, and Kiara Troxel of Ainsworth; Cole Dockweiler of Chadron; and Riley and Nathan Troxel of Houston, Texas. Other surviving family members include a brother, Lawrence and Millie Troxel of Pawnee City and a sister, Sharon Kay and Steve Land of Broken Bow. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Memorial service will be held at Govier Bros Mortuary on Saturday, February 26, at 2:00 pm. Memorials may be sent to the Broken Bow or Ansley Fire and Rescue squads. *signing of the guest book will take place from 9-5 at Govier Bros Mortuary from Wednesday to Friday
