Melvin Lyle Poland
Melvin Lyle Poland age 57 of Broken Bow died February 25, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Rev. Dan Rowlison officiating. Interment will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice. Visitation will be held Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Melvin was born August 23, 1953 at Broken Bow to Bobby and Evelyn (Williams) Poland. Melvin received his education at Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1972. After his education Melvin worked for Olson Gravel from 1972 until 1980. During that time he had a pet Carp he called Jaws that he fed chocolate chip cookies. He then worked for Sargent Pipe until 2002 and then Husker Irrigation at Ansley for two years before working for Casey’s convenience store in Broken Bow. He also worked part time at the family liquor store, JD Bottle Shop from 1983 until 2004.
Melvin loved music, watching TV spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed painting ceramic statuettes, dry brushing and yard work. Melvin was always friendly to everyone he met.
Survivors include a sister Virginia (Calvin) Magner of Pleasanton, NE., two brothers Steven Poland of Broken Bow and Dennis Poland of Hoisington, KS. one niece and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
