G. Verlene ‘Sandy’ Talbot (October 15, 1924 – March 26, 2011)
G. Verlene Talbot, age 86, of Broken Bow, NE passed away March 26, 2011 at the Golden LivingCenter in Broken Bow, NE.
Sandy Talbot was born October 15, 1924 the third child of Wendell and Edna (Jacobsen) Cosner. She was born at Lillian, NE and attended school at Lillian, graduating from Gates High School in 1942. After high school, she attended Omaha School of Beauty. Returning to Broken Bow, she started as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until her retirement in 1982.
Her live was drastically changed at the local roller skating rink where she met the man of her dreams, Bun. He skated up to her and asked her if she was aware that her rear wheels were rolling forward. They were married on a beautiful sunny December 18, 1949 at Lillian, NE.
They bought their first and only home at 835 South 6th, Broken Bow, NE where they resided until her illness. Into their union came 3 daughters, Carol Marie, Wendy May and Ann Marlene. They all knew what a screw driver was before age 3.
She enjoyed spending time at the lake, her garden, the farm, Nebraska Cornhusker football, bowling with her friends, her church, crocheting and most important spending time with her family. Sandy would be the first to offer assistance to a neighbor or lend a helping hand. She volunteered her talents as a beautician at the nursing home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Harry and Edith, her son-in-law, Martin and grandson, Jared.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Marvin R. ‘Bun’; Carol and Dan Rowedder of York, NE; Wendy Wilson of Alliance, NE; Ann and Bill Seeger of Lincoln, NE. Five Grandchildren, Travis and April Rowedder of Osage, IA; Nathan and Ryla Rowedder of Ankeny, IA; Robert Seeger and fiancé Kaytlin Williams of Lincoln, NE; Alyssa (Rowedder) and Nolan Sollenberger of Davenport, IA and Elizabeth (Seeger) and Adam McIntosh of Paducah, KY. 4 Great-grandchildren, Daniel, Devon, Dezerae and Judson.
Her wishes were to be cremated and interred at the Merna Cemetery, Merna, NE with her husband at her side in the family plot.
