LaVerna Hodson

October 16, 1942 — March 31, 2011

LaVerna Mae Cook Hodson, 68, known to many for her candor, unique sense of humor, and love of life, went home to dance with the angels on March 31, 2011. LaVerna was born to Helen and Merle Cook October 16, 1942 in Limon, Colorado. Her tenacious character saw her through her childhood and school years to graduate high school in Fountain, CO in 1960, complete an Associates degree at Central College in McPherson, KS in 1962, and earn her Bachelor’s degree from Greenville College, IL in 1964. She began her teaching career at the elementary school in Mound Ridge, KS before marrying her hero and the love of her life, Richard Hodson on July 15, 1965. She continued her teaching career in Merna and Taylor before being blessed with five children. LaVerna embraced her role as wife, helpmate, mother, and homemaker and enjoyed her family and friends immensely. She was active in her church and her love for the Lord was often conveyed through the singing of hymns and songs around the home. She shared her appreciation of music, sewing, cooking, and gardening with her children. The majority of LaVerna and Richard’s married life was spent making a home for their family on the farm in the Cummings Parks area, Northwest of Sargent. She is survived by her loving devoted husband Richard Hodson; children Lyn (Vicki) Hodson of Gracey, KY, Ronda (Brian) Kilian of Litchfield Park, AZ, Matthew (Lynn) Hodson of Curtis, NE, Jonathan (Holli) Hodson of Grand Island, NE, Marcy (John) Hipolito of Rosemount, MN; grandchildren Heather Hampton, Megan Hampton, Randi Hodson, Renee Hodson, Blake Hodson, Ari Hipolito, Tate Hodson, Shelby Hampton, John Hipolito, Tanner Hodson, Jacob Kilian, Brice Hodson, Joshua Kilian, Naomi Kilian, Aiden Hipolito, Gavin Hipolito; great-grandchild Kimberly Hampton; Sisters Louise Beazley, Lucille Petty, Leona Banta. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Helen Cook, her brother, Lloyd Cook, and two nephews, Leonard and Clifford Beazley. A service celebrating her life was held April 5th, 2011 at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Pastor Mark Stones officiating. Burial was in the Taylor Cemetery. She will be missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
