Joseph Sherman Burnett, age 87, of Mena, Nebraska died May 10th, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Ne. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday May 13, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anselms Catholic Church in Anselmo, Nebraska with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow Wednesday 4p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday 8 a.m. to 3;30 p.m. Visitation continues Thursday 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Saint Anselms Catholic Church in Anselmo, Ne. with a Wake service at 6;00 P.M. Memorials may be made to Saint Anselms Catholic Church or the Donors choice. Joseph S. Burnett was born November 24, 1923 in Berwyn, Nebraska to Douglass and Maymae (Pracht) Burnett. He attended school in Berwyn and graduated from Berwyn High School. Joe served in the United States Army during WW II. On April 23, 1958 Joseph married Reva Payne and they made their home on a ranch farm near Merna, Nebraska. Reva passed away in 1986. Joseph is survived by 2 sons Clifford (Vickie) Burnett of Merna, Ne. Dale (Angela) Burnett of Anselmo, Ne.. 4 daughters Carla (Allen) Williams of Merna, Ne. Elaine (Matt) Schoenrock of Cortland, Ne., Carole (Mark) Porter of Merna, Ne. Marla (Jim) Dutton of Grand Island, Ne. Several grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, a brother Clair (Leah) Burnett of Anselmo, a sister Lucille McCaslin of Sidney, Ne. 2 sister-in-laws Thelma Burnett of Broken Bow, and Janice Geiser of Merna, Ne. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Melvin, Floyd, and Clifford. Brothers-in-law Gerald McCaslin, and Ivan Geiser, and a grandson Riley Burnett.
