Edith Doris “Doll” Linder, age 91 of Broken Bow died June 10, 2011 after a long respiratory illness, surrounded by her family and under the loving care of the staff of Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday June 18, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, Broken Bow. Visitation will be Friday June 17, 2011 from 8:00AM till 8:00PM with family receiving friends from 6:00-7:00 at Govier Brothers Funeral Home.
Doll was born September 22, 1919 in Las Vegas NM to Edith M. (Forbes) and Albert F. Blackburn. She moved to Grand Island Nebr. in 1925 where she grew up and graduated from Grand Island HS. In Nov. 1942 in Lubbock, TX the former Ms. Blackburn was united in marriage to Chester Linder where he was in Glider Pilot training. After WWII Doll and Chet made their home in Grand Island where their 4 children were born. In 1961 they moved to Broken Bow, where they opened the Chet Linder Insurance Agency.
Doll was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, BPOE Does, loving mother, avid golfer and bridge player. Edith enjoyed crossword puzzles, swimming, crocheting and traveling. Doll and Chet were members of the WWII Glider Pilots Assoc. and after Chet died, her son Joe made sure that she was able to continue to attend the reunions. She was proud to have donated over 50 gal of blood in her life, but was most proud of her loving children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons David (Bonnie) of Colorado Springs, Joseph of Broken Bow, Mark (Helen) of Madison WI, and her daughter Becky (Ted) Christen of Scottsbluff. She also leaves behind grandchildren Alissa (Lt. Col. Steve) Edwards, Grant Linder, Christina (Jeremy) Chisum, Mark (Erin) Linder, Jenny Linder, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mrs. Linder was preceded in death by her husband Chet in 1989. She was the last survivor of 8 brothers and sisters, Helen Blackburn McElroy, Byron Blackburn, Lucile Blackburn Fagin, Albert Blackburn, Edward Blackburn, William Blackburn, and Barbara Blackburn Kratz.
