Maxine Jane Moody

Maxine Jane (Miller) Moody, 81, of Arcadia, NE died Friday, August 5, 2011, at Roselane Home in Loup City, NE. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Arcadia, NE, with the Pastor Jeff Hale officiating. Pallbearers were Joshua Staab, Stacey Kolar, Tyler Fausset, Evan Moody, Eric Real and Tony Real. Burial was at Lee Park Cemetery near Arcadia, NE. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow, NE was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of Arcadia or Lee Park Cemetery. Maxine Jane Moody was born to Theodore and Lita (Drake) Miller on November 3, 1929 in their home of rural Arcadia. She received her education at Knight School and Hayes Creek School also in the Arcadia area. After her father passed away in 1940, she and her mother moved to Washington and later California. They returned to Nebraska where she attended and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1947 as the class salutatorian. Not venturing far, Maxine began her teaching career in rural one-room schoolhouses in the fall of 1947 at the age of 17 years old. Maxine married Robert (Bob) Moody on April 17, 1948 in the Balsora parsonage south of Arcadia. Two children were born to this marriage, Ronald Moody of Broken Bow, NE and Teresa Staab of Arcadia, NE. Over the years, Bob and Maxine and the children resided in numerous states while Bob worked for heavy equipment construction companies. Upon returning to Nebraska, they lived in the Comstock and Arcadia area where they farmed, then owned and operated the Comstock Market. Maxine enjoyed working in several different surrounding greenhouses and was known as “the flower lady”. Maxine enjoyed gardening, canning, camping and spending time with family and friends. She attended as many of her grandchildren’s sporting activities as possible, always being a supportive and encouraging ‘cheerleader’ for them. Maxine and Bob spent many nights ‘under the stars’ taking the grandkids on camping and fishing trips to Willow Lake, stuffing them all into a 12ft camper for a cozy family experience. She was a Cub Scout leader and a Girl Scout leader for over 30 years, a member of the Arcadia Garden Club, the Thursday morning coffee group and attended the United Methodist Church in Arcadia. Maxine will be remembered for her strong faith, humility, generosity, curiosity for life, moral character, and the unconditional love for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, and her brother Harold. Those left to cherish her memory are her son Ronald Moody and wife Marilyn; daughter Teresa Staab and husband Bill; 6 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great grand children-and another ‘on the way’; 4 step-great grand children; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
