Twila Darlene Duryea was born on June 25, 1930 at Merna, Nebraska to Leo Albert and Jennie Elizabeth (Lewis) Duryea.
As a very young child, Twila was struck down with a terrible illness, the high temperature prevented her from doing some of the things her siblings were able to do. Twila was baptized at the Merna Methodist Church.
Twila’s big sister Grace read to her often. Twila’s little sister Mickey remembers that Twila read to her often. We don’t know if she read or just remembered Grace’s stories. Twila’s brother Duaine was just a year older. Duaine always had a special love for his little sister. When all of Twila’s siblings left home Twila was often lonely. When Twila’s parents health failed Twila went to the Heritage Hall Nursing Home with her parents. Twila was sent to Sandhills Manor Nursing Home. Duaine had become the guardian for Twila’s. Duaine’s wife Nola took on the job to purchase Twila’s clothes and see if her closets were in order. Twila loved to walk and carry soft dolls and animals. Twila was a loveable person who often called the person who was kind to her, her “Ma-Ma.”
Twila was later sent to the Golden Living Center in Fullerton and they took over her care.
Twila is survived by her brothers Lee Duryea of Bennettsville, SC, LaVern (Leona) Duryea of Mason City, sisters Mickey (Arlin) Wiemer of York, Louie (Robert) Young of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Corky Haddix of Boise, Idaho, sister-in-law Nola Duryea of St. Paul, NE, and many nieces and nephews.
