Ruth Bolen

March 21, 1923 — February 18, 2012

Ruth Marie ( Bowley ) Bolen departed from this earth, her family and friends to join the Lord, her husband, John L. Bolen, (August 11,2003), son, Charles, a great-great grandson, parents John and Myrtle (Amsberry) Bowley, sisters Florence (Morgan), Sarah (Dutton), LaVonne, Ruby (Chrisp), and Katherine (Geiser). Ruth is survived by brother Johnny (Kay) and family, immediate family Leonard (Wanda) Bolen and family of Colusa, CA, Myrtle (Jim) Babcock and family of North Plate, NE, David and family of Alliance, NE, Joe (Darlene) and family of Cheyenne WY, Dale (Gerri) and family of Thornton, CO . She was blessed with 16 grand-children, 26 great grand-children, and 2 great great grandchildren. Ruth was born on the William Bowley Homestead, later purchased by her parents, located on Victoria Creek south of Victoria Springs State park, North of Merna, NE. Ruth attended New Helena Elementary School and graduated from Anselmo High School. On July 5, 1942, she married John Bolen at St Anselmo Catholic Rectory and they began raising their family; farming John’s mothers homestead west of Merna, relocating to a farm west of Broken Bow, than to Eureka Valley south west of Anselmo, and finely to a ranch just south west of Anselmo, before retiring to a home in Anselmo, where they began another segment of their life as custodian, and lunch servers for the elementary school children. They resided in Anslemo until John’s death in 2003. Ruth then became a resident of Off Broadway Assisted Living until late 2010, relocating to Heritage Hall Care Center until her death. Ruth was active for many years in the Catholic Women’s Alter Society and Ladies Extension Club, serving as president and other appointed positions. Ruth unselfishly assisted Family, Neighbors and Friends in time of need, loss and disaster. Her unending kindness was shared with many. Ruth enjoyed her family, friends and neighbors who came to visit or just happen to drop by in time for a meal. She had a knack for stretching the food for the meal to feed a few more. She also enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, fruits and meats, for the winter months and traveling. Fresh Tomatoes, sweet corn, and fried chicken were among her favorite foods to eat. Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 23, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Anselmo with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Dale Catholic Cemetery near Merna, NE. A rosary service will be held on Wednesday February 22, at 6 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Visitation will be held on Wednesday Feb. 22, 8 AM to 8 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary. Memorials may be given to the charity of choice, in Ruth’s name.
