Dorothy Drake Pollard age 93, formerly of Milburn area, died Tuesday March 20, 2012 at the Valley County Hospital in Ord, NE. Funeral services will be held on Friday March 23, at 1:00 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow with Reverend Don Schauda officiating. Burial will be in the Moulton Cemetery west of Taylor. Visitation will be held on Thursday 8 AM to 8 PM with the family greeting friends 6 PM to 8 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary. Memorials may be given to the Dorothy Pollard Memorial Fund. Dorothy was born on August 23, 1918 at Loup County near Almeria, NE to John Edward and Nora Lee (Hess) Drake. Dorothy graduated from Loup County High School and later attended Normal Training. On May 27, 1937 she was married to Glen Pollard. Four children were born to this union, Raymond, Irvin, Douglas, and Dorothy. In 1941 they bought the Jarvis Ranch near Almeria, where they raised their family. Dorothy worked for two years as a teacher at Dry Valley Country School, as a dispatcher for Region 26, and was the Loup County Civil Defense Director for many years. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, baking pies and cinnamon rolls, and quilting. She was a member of the Clever Clique Club and the Pleasant Valley Church. In February of 2012 Dorothy was the Valentine Queen at the Valley View Living Center in Ord. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Dorothy Anderson of Holdrege, NE and Tim Anderson of Plum Creek, NE, three sons Raymond Pollard of Oklahoma, Irvin and wife Joan Pollard of Monument, CO, and Douglas and wife Kathy Pollard of Taylor, NE. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, sister-in-laws Rosie Drake of Sargent, Dona and husband Norman Schipporeit of Broken Bow and Evelyn Pollard of Broomfield, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents John Edward and Nora Lee Drake, her husband Glen, eight brothers; Elmer, Albert, Francis, Glenn, Kenneth, Edward, Harry and Clyde; four sisters, Ethel, Myrtle, Grace and Mildred.
