LaVonne D. Cords, age 73, of Broken Bow died March 28, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Funeral services will be Monday April 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Visitation will be Sunday April 1st at Govier Brothers Mortuary 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Burial will be in the Dunning Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
LaVonne was born June 14, 1938 in Mason City, Nebraska to Alfred and Mildred (Fries) Scheibe. She went blind at the age of 8 years old from an accident. She also had polio at this time. LaVonne attended the blind school at Nebraska City for a few years. She lived at home with her parents till 1970 when she married Frank Cords at Clay Center, Ne. To this union one daughter Fannie was born. Frank died in 1980. LaVonne’s favorite pass times were making pot holders, reading books, writing brail and listening to music especially old county western songs, and gospel music songs. She also had a special dog, Skippy, whom she loved dearly and was a companion for 12 years.
Lavonne also loved visiting with people whether she knew them or not, she always had something to talk about. In 2000, due to health issues, LaVonne entered the care home in Broken Bow.
LaVonne is survived by her mother Mildred Scheibe of Broken Bow, daughter Fannie (Roy) Poff of Broken Bow, sister Donna Reynolds of Mullen, Ne., brother Donald Scheibe of Broken Bow. 3 grandchildren Shawna, David and Candice of Broken Bow, 3 stepsons Robert, Marvin, and Louie, and several neices, nephews, cousins, uncle, and aunt. She was preceded in death by her father Alfred, husband Frank, brother LaVerne, and nephew Kelly.
