Merna, NE- Janet Finney age 76 of Merna died Sunday May 6, 2012 at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Janet Ruth Pohlreich Finney was born on November 27, 1935 at Anselmo to Rudy and Rose (Loughran) Polhreich. She attended Columbia Table grade school and graduated from Merna High School in 1953. She taught school for one year at Farritor School east of Victoria Springs State Park, attended Duchesne College in Omaha for one year, and then St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island for 2 years graduating in 1957. She was employed at Sandhills General Hospital in Valentine for two years and then travelled with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile for two years before her marriage to Pat Finney on January 26, 1963 at Grand Island, NE at the Blessed Sacrament Church and returned to her family farm northeast of Anselmo. There they raised for sons Phil, Chris, David, and Mark. She worked part time at local hospitals as time allowed while continuing to work on the farm and raise a garden. Janet volunteered her time as a school nurse or to take care of anybody in need. They moved to Merna in 1997 where her yard, flowers, church, and grandchildren were her life.
Janet is survived by her husband Pat of Merna, sons Phil (Lisa) Finney of Anselmo, Chris (Patty) Finney of Ainsworth, David (Linda) Finney of Springfield, NE, and Mark (Becky) Finney of Anselmo. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and one sister Edna (Gordon) Anderson of Anselmo.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 9, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Anselm’s Catholic in Anselmo with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anslem’s Catholic Cemetery at Anselmo. Visitation will be held on Tuesday 10:00 AM to 7 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary with a Rosary to follow at 7 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials have been suggested the AseraCare Hospice or the St. Anselm’s Cemetery.
