Broken Bow, NE- Gladys Wolf age 101 of Broken Bow died Sunday June 17, 2012 at her home in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 21, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, 8 AM to 8 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow with the family greeting friends 4 PM to 6 PM. Memorials have been established to the Broken Bow United Methodist Church or the Broken Bow Rebekah Lodge. Gladys Cecilia Weinand was born on June 16, 1911 to Aloyus and Susan Weinand at the farm home near Alma, NE. She graduated from Alma High School. She began teaching after graduation at rural school near Alma and taught there for two years. She also taught near Huntley for two years. In 1933 she married Edward Wolf at Holdrege, NE. They farmed ten years in the Alma vicinity, and then purchased a ranch in Custer County, Nebraska in the Pilot neighborhood southwest of Mason City, NE. They moved there in 1943. Gladys taught the home school district in 1949 and then joined the Broken Bow School system in 1952. She and Ed moved to Broken Bow in 1968 where she taught until she retired in 1976. They took many Grange trips to places in the U.S. and Canada. During the years Gladys belonged to many organizations, among them were the National Education Association, Nebraska Education Association, the International Reading Association, AAUW University Women’s Club, Cosmo pals Club, and Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was a charter member of the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Gladys held offices in most organizations, including the Rebekah Lodge, Custer Center Grange #103, the Garden Club, Past Noble Grand Club and Triple Link Club. She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church and the Guild. Besides her club activities she found time for playing cards, gardening and working crossword puzzles. She was an excellent cook and home maker. She loved being with her family and friends. She celebrated her 95th birthday with an Open House at the Broken Bow Elk’s Club and members of her family had a 100th birthday party at the Country Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Francis and Gilbert, and her husband Edward. Survivors include her brother John Weinand and wife Lucille, of Alma, Nebraska, and sister Ruth Bryant of Longview, Washington, two sons, Dudley Wolf and wife Shirley of Anlsey, Nebraska, Richard Wolf and wife Patti of Danville, Indiana and daughter, Margery Trew and husband Lloyd of Kearney, Nebrasksa, grandchildren, Cheryl Ray and husband Howard of Lewiston, Idaho, Karen Demmel and husband Douglas of Lafayette, Colorado, Brad Trew and wife Diane of McCook, Nebraska, Tami Davies of Rockville, Indiana, Staci and Paul Utterback of Terre Haute, Indiana, 17 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, several neices and nephews.
