Harry Ray Boyles

Loup City, NE- Harry Ray Boyles age 86 of Mason City died Sunday July 8, 2012 at the Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City. Funeral services will be held on Friday July 13, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church in Mason City with Reverend Bill Ragan officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 PM at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE with military honors. Memorials have been established to the Mason City American Legion Post or the Mason City Community Service Club. Visitation will be held on Thursday July 12, 8 AM to 8 PM with the family greeting friends 5 PM to 7 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow. Harry Ray Boyles was born on April 1, 1926 at Brownlee, Nebraska to William Harry and Daisy (Hulett) Boyles. Harry Ray spent many years in the Sandhills before he moved to Custer County. Harry Ray enlisted in the US Army on October 25, 1944 he served until November 20, 1946. Harry Ray was called back into service January 6, 1951 and served until September 21, 1951. On June 24, 1951 he was married to Gretchen Taylor at Mason City, Nebraska. The couple spent their entire married life in Mason City. Harry Ray worked as a mail carrier and was later the Mason City Postmaster. Mr. Boyles also raised and sold pure bred Angus Cattle. Mrs. Boyles died on January 19, 2011. Harry Ray was a member of the Mason City First Baptist Church, was a life member of the American Angus Association, Heart of Nebraska Angus Association, served on the Mason City School Board, Custer County Board of Supervisors, Custer County Fair Board, Custer County Veterans Service Committee, was a 4-H leader, was a life member of the American Legion, and was a volunteer fireman. Harry Ray is survived by his four sons; John of Cozad, Jim of Mason City, David (Tracy) of Mason City, and Joe (Karen) of Lewistown, MT, two daughters Carol (Pat) Kuehl of Loup City, and Tammy Boyles of Aurora, MN, 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Mary Ellen (Bob) Gestwite of Ansley. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gretchen, and a sister Alberta “Bertie” Holley.
