Mildred Ann Klapal, age 89, of Broken Bow, Ne. died Monday July 23, 2012 at the Off Broadway assisted living in Broken Bow.
Funeral services will be held Friday July 27th at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with Rev. Glen Emert officiating. Burial will be in the National Bohemian Cemetery near Comstock. Ne. Visitation will be Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mildred Ann Klapal was born December 15, 1922 on a farm southeast of Comstock, Ne. to John and Anna (Kluna) Stefka. When she was 3 years old the family moved to a farm north of Comstock. Mildred attended Longwood School District #6 for 5 years. The family moved west of Comstock and she attended school at the Glasier School District #29. Mildred graduated from Comstock High School in 1939 at the age of 16.
Mildred was united in marriage to Frank J. Klapal on April 22, 1942 in Broken Bow, Ne. In December they moved to Broken Bow. To this marriage three sons were born, Frank Marvin, Bryon Stefka, and Gordon John. Mildred is preceded in death by Frank, her husband, and son, Gordon, her parents and her sister Libbie.
Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church, and a member of the ZCBJ and WBFO Lodge 112, since 1934. She was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, and playing the piano and her accordions. She loved music of all kinds and also participated in family activities. Mildred was a member of the Broken Bow Does #68, the Home Demonstration Club, Jaycees, the Broken Bow Fireman’s Auxiliary, the Sparkettes, and a blood mobile volunteer. She was a Cub Scout leader for 3 years, taught Sunday School for 3 years and taught Vacation Bible school.
Survivors are her 2 sons Frank Marvin (Ann) Klapal of Aurora, Co., Bryon (Eula) Klapal of Castle Rock, CO, 3 grandchildren; Shawn and wife Susan of Aurora, CO, Brandi and husband Steve West of Monument, CO, Bryon Troy and wife Jessica of Castle Rock, CO, and 6 great grandchildren, her brother Leonard (Donna) Stefka of Fort Scott, KS, brother in law Eldon (Patricia) Klapal of Dothan, AL, three nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 2000 and son Gordon.
Mildred will be missed, but most of all she will be remembered for her love of family, and her love of polka music. She was very proud of her Czech Heritage.
