Fred Werner

Frederick John Werner Fred J. Werner age 83 of Broken Bow died August 14, 2012 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow. Memorial services will be held Saturday August 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Anselmo with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Anselm’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Fred and Alice Werner family scholarship fund at the Custer County Foundation in Broken Bow or St. Anselm’s Catholic Cemetery. Christian Wake Service will be held Friday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow Fred was born July 18, 1929 at Grand Island, NE to Albert and Helen (Schmitz) Werner. Fred graduated in 1948 from St. Mary’s High School in Grand Island, NE. He married Alice Leonard a classmate on April 26, 1957. Fred worked as a self employed painter and decorator. He spent two years in the Army stationed in Germany. He enjoyed visiting his many relatives living there. He loved retirement at the B-B ranch in Anselmo. Hard work, friends, family and the Lord were most important to him. Survivors include his wife Alice of Broken Bow, a daughter and son-in-law Lisa (Dr. John) Carr of Avondale, AZ. grandchildren Justin, Jessica and Taylor Carr. A son and daughter- in- law Dr. Tom (Lynne) Werner of Grand Island. Grand children Adam and Jane Werner. Sisters, Eleanor Lewandowski of Loup City and Elizabeth Wanamaker of Lincoln, one brother William Werner of Grand Island and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Albert (T.D.) Werner of Grand Island and a sister Helen Jean Toth of Pennsylvania.
