Leila Johnson, age 96, of rural Anselmo, died Thursday January 31, 2013 at her home near Anselmo.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday Feb. 5, 2013 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Mary Jane Gockley officiating. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery at Merna, Nebraska. Visitation will be Monday Feb 4th, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials may be made to the Broken Bow Library.
Leila Johnson was born June 22, 1916 in Gross, Nebraska to Carl Antoine and Ruth (Keller) Micheel. She grew up and attended school in the Thedford and Wood Lake communities. She attended Chadron State College for 2 years and later the Chicago Art Institute. On May 1, 1942 Leila married Earl Johnson in Washington D.C. Leila was active in St John’s Episcopal church in Broken Bow, and the Dale Valley Neighbors Club.
Leila is survived by her son Joe and wife Carole Johnson of Broken Bow, Ne. Two sisters Marthena Lamoureaux of Valentine, Ne. and Betty Bennett of Martin, South Dakota. Several neices and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, three brothers Melvin, Leon, and Carl Jr., and two sisters Margaret, and Dorothy.
