Richard Everett Towns March 24, 1934- March 21, 2013 Richard (Dick) Everett Towns was born March 24th, 1934 in Broken Bow, NE to Ann and Everett Towns. On Dec 26, 1955 he married Kay Hall. He was educated in Broken Bow Public Schools, graduated in 1952. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He worked 30 years of his life on his grandfather, F.A. Bates, ranch and Implement business. He semi-retired and worked as a Veterinary Assistant for ten years. Dick spent many years raising and showing Herford Cattle. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a past shooter and board member of the Nebraska One Box Pheasant Hunt in Broken Bow, Ne. He served as a One Box Chairman. He shot on a Nebraska One Box Pheasant Hunt Champion Team. He was also a member of the Nebraska One Box Foundation and Past Shooter Board. He was inducted into the One Box Pheasant Hunt Hall of Fame in 2000. He enjoyed helping and mentoring youth shooters. Dick was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Broken Bow, Ne. He served as a secretary treasurer for many years and served on the church council. .He served as a 4-H leader in the Gates/Lillian community for twenty years, helping youth grow to love horses and cattle as he did. In his later years he enjoyed cooking and attending his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren’s many activities. Survivors include his wife Kay, daughter Cindel Hamilton of Broken Bow, Ne, son Mike (Bobbie) Towns of Rosemont, MN, daughter Stacy (Dann) Smith of Columbus, Ne, brother Dennis (Arletta) Towns of Hastings, Ne, nephews Tod (Kim) Towns of Denver, CO, Brice (Sara) Towns of Des Moines, IA, grandchildren Keli (Jeffery) Erickson, Brant Myers, Tia (Michael) Jilg, Shelby Hamilton, Bailey Smith, Molly Towns, Jack Towns, great grand children Harmony, Taylor, Trinity, Danica, Gavin, and Jocelyn, and great nieces and nephews Dominik, Keaton, and Sophia. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Peter Towns and Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Bates. Also Parents Everett and Ann Towns. Mr. Towns died on Thursday March 21, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held on Monday March 25, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Broken Bow with Reverend Roger Quandt and Rev. Josh Hillman officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held on Sunday 1 PM to 6 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary, with the family greeting friends 4 PM to 6 PM. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, One Box Youth Shooting Program, or the Custer County Foundation Scholarship for Broken Bow graduates.
