Dorothy Jane Daugherty

August 31, 1921 — July 14, 2013

Dorothy, the youngest child of Earnest and Clara (Loyd) Baker was born August 31, 1921 at Broken Bow and passed away July 14, 2013 at the Herritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Rev. Todd Karges officiating.Interment will be in the Merna Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. Dorothy attended Snake Run rural school thru the 8th grade, graduating from Broken Bow High School with a teaching certificate, then teaching in rural schools for 6 years. On January 1, 1945, Dorothy married Claude Daugherty of Merna, NE in Broken Bow. They lived on a farm near Merna where their four children grew to adults. She enjoyed the farm, especially the livestock and her flower garden. After Claude's death in 1985, she moved to Broken Bow and clerked at Ben Franklins for 8 years. Dorothy took active part in the community, always a friendly neighbor, helping with school activities and clubs. She was a Custer County Extension Chairman, a past Noble Grande of Rebekah Lodge #110, a Worthy Master of the Custer Center Grange, a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, W.H.O., and various community clubs. Her hobbies were enjoying the grandchildren, reading, sewing, crocheting, playing cards, and in later years, traveling, taking many Grange Tours. Survivors include three daughters Claudia (Robert) Sangster of Herrick, SD; Darla (Ronald) McCleary of Callaway, NE; Carma (Robert) Hartman of Champion, NE.; one son Dwight (Patti) Daugherty of Merna, NE.;Nine grandchildren Cheryl (Dan) Baxa, Brenda Sangster,sasha (Anthony) Rabaiotti, Justin (Sarah)Daugherty,Dustin (Jodi)and Ross (Kati)McCleary, Spencer, Blair and Jessica Hartman. Seven great grandaughters Dana Baxa, Chelsa (Dan) Jons, Amanda Baxa, Gabrella Rabaiotti, Katie, Emily and Ashley McCleary; two great grandsons Carson McCleary and Alexandra Rabaiotti; two step great granddaughters, Monika laudenklos and Maddie Petterson; two great grandsons Kaleb Bryd, Jase Jons; one sister Leona McCaslin and one brother Dale Baker both of Broken Bow; two sister-in-laws Lou Baker of California and Dora Tomanelli of Valley, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one step great grandson. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Donor's choice.
