Maxine Illingworth age 96 of Broken Bow died August 25, 2013 at her home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 28, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary with Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Interment will be in the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Govier Bros. Mortuary.
Maxine was born February 10, 1917 in the West Union community near Sargent to Loyd and Mae (Hill) Pointer. She spent her childhood there and graduated from Sargent High School in 1934. She taught at several schools in the area attending Kearney State College in the summer months. She was united in marriage to Ward Illingworth on September 1, 1940. They had the joy of spending fifty five years together. Maxine’s family was the main focus of her life.
She worked part-time in various businesses in Broken Bow. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the United Methodist Church for over fifty years and the Outreachers circle. She was active in Jobs Daughters, a member of the American legion Auxilliary for sixty six years holding the office of president. She was also a member of the eight and forty club for many years, which is all past presidents of Nebraska. In her younger years she enjoyed her bridge club. After retirement she and Ward did lots of traveling.
Survivors include her daughter Mary Kriha of Lincoln, one granddaughter Sara Kriha and a great grandson Noah Diaz both of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ward in 1995, one sister Doris Lee and a brother Harold Pointer.
