Ruth Rose Parker Ruth R. Parker age 91, of Broken Bow died August 28, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held Saturday August 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Jerry Ricketts officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Sargent. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be given to the family to assist with funeral costs. Ruth was born May 26, 1922 at Benkelman, NE to Fredrick and Sarah Viola (Scott) Bunning. She enjoyed horses, riding in rodeos and barrel racing, where she met and married Alvin “Bill” Newman in 1938 and unto this union there were 3 children; James, Karen, and Rita. They made their home in Jackson Hole, WY, until their marriage dissolved in 1952. In 1953 Ruth met and married Carl Parker and unto their union 4 children were born; Carol, Timothy, David and Stephen. They lived in several southern states and finally settled in Custer County, Nebraska. Ruth worked as a nurse’s aide for over 40 years and retired at age 80. She then spent her time with family, in her flower garden and reading until her health failed and she went to Golden Living Center Retirement Home in December of 2012. She departed this life on August 28, 2013 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, a son, and a daughter. Survivors include two daughters Karen Rood of Broken Bow and Carol (Darrell) Goodner of Gates, NE, three sons Timothy Parker of Albion, David Parker of Oconto and Stephen Parker of Lincoln, 31 grandchildren, and many great and great great grandchildren.
