Henry George Duerksen

Henry George Duerkson, 84, of Broken Bow died Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow, Nebraska. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Mason City First Baptist Church with Pastor Roger McDermott officiating. There will be no visitation and the inurnment will be at a later date. Henry was born on February 2, 1929 in Newton, Ks to Henry B. and Lizzy (Geddert) Duerkson. He was joined in Christian marriage to Dorothy Ann Adams on August 3, 1957 at Oakland Park Baptist Church in Kansas City, Ks. He attended Hutchison Junior College in Kansas and after serving two years in the U.S. Navy he returned home to finish a bachelor degree at Ottawa University. He then attended Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Ks where he earned his master’s degree. He was an ordained American Baptist Minister and his lifelong employment was in the service to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a pastor in churches in Kansas, Nevada, and Nebraska as well as a missionary to Native Americans in the Stuart, Nevada area. Henry still delivered the message of hope 3 times a week to his many friends at the Golden Living Center. His enduring love of the Lord was an inspiration to his church family at Mason City First Baptist. His many interests and organizational memberships included the Barber Shoppers, American Legion, Custer County Community Chorus, Bible Camp Counselor, Custer County Ministerial Association, and the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by his wife, son, Edward and his wife Angie, daughter, Debra Flatt and her husband Lyndel, and five grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
