Wendell Case

February 13, 1929 — December 24, 2013

Wendell Carl Case, 84, of Ansley, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013. The second of three children, Wendell was born on February 13, 1929 to Carl and Edith (Sherbeck) Case. With the exception of his military service, he lived his entire life in Ansley, and was born and raised in the same house, a fact he was proud of. He graduated from Ansley High School in 1947, and, on June 14, 1948, he enlisted in the Army. During his Army service, he spent a year in Puerto Rico, where he contracted tropical phagedena, which led to a medical discharge from the Army on June 13, 1953. Following his service, he remained a member of the American Legion. On August 25, 1951, he married Patricia Moore, and they had two children, Robert and Alan. One of his favorite pastimes was pheasant hunting; it was an activity he enjoyed with his children and grandchildren. Wendell worked for a few years as a delivery truck driver for a Butter Crust, a local bread company, and then worked for Meston Motors until 1960, when he became the fifth person to be hired at the new Becton Dickinson plant in Broken Bow. He worked for B-D until he retired in 1990. Wendell enjoyed cats and dogs, and, over the years, had several of both. In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, his sister, Florence, and his brother, Charles. He is survived by his sons, Robert and Alan, his grandchildren, Steven, Sean, Christina, Brooke, and Andrew, as well as nine great-grandchildren. There will be a graveside memorial service for Wendell on June 14, 2014 at 11am at the Ansley Cemetery at Ansley, Nebraska. The family requests that any memorials in Wendell’s name be made to the Ansley Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements.
