Broken Bow, NE- Agnes Hempstead, age 84 of Anselmo, died Sunday May 11, 2014 at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Anselmo, with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Dale Catholic Cemetery west of Merna. Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary, and the family will greet friends Thursday evening 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Anselmo with a rosary service at 7:00 PM. Memorials are established to the St. Anselm’s Catholic Church or the Anselmo Fire and Rescue Department. Agnes Marie Hempstead was born on March 5, 1930 on a farm north of Oconto, Nebraska to Patrick James and Catherine (Sherlock) Tully. In 1942 the family moved to Ortello Valley. She graduated from Merna High School in 1948, and then attended St. Mary’s College in Omaha. She was married to Vaughn Hempstead on November 29, 1952. Agnes worked for 32 years at the Anselmo Merna Schools. Agnes is survived by her sons; Pat Hempstead of Loveland, CO, Bob Hempstead of Cantwell, Alaska, Joe Hempstead of Yuma, Colorado, Danny Hempstead of Anselmo, Tom Hempstead of Columbus, NE, Paul Hempstead of Grand Island, one daughter; Jackie Hempstead of Kearney, NE, 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, son in law Jerry Hickenbottom of Riverdale, sister in law Mayde Hempstead of Security, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vaughn, daughters; Vicky and Tammy, sisters; Mary, Katherine, Anna, brothers; Don, James, Joe, and granddaughter Jessica.
