Tom Joyce

Thomas E. Joyce, age 85, of Broken Bow, Ne. and passed away Friday June 6th, 2014 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island, Ne. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday June 10th 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Broken Bow. Memorials may be made to the family. Thomas E. Joyce was born February 26, 1929 in Spalding, Nebraska to Thomas J. and Leona (Walsh) Joyce. He attended school at Spalding Academy Schools and graduated in the class of 1946. Tom served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Thomas married Winifred Shepherd in Manchester, England. Tom was a life-long mechanic, serving many area businesses as well as the BNSF railroad from which he retired, and also the City of Broken Bow. Tom enjoyed his grandchildren, collecting old cars, gardening, and hunting and fishing. Tom was a member of the Broken Bow American Legion and Broken Bow Elks 1688. Thomas is survived by his wife Winifred Joyce of Broken Bow, 1 son Stephen Joyce of Alliance, Ne., 2 daughters Janet Coffman of Ansley, Ne., and Julie (Tim) Kettleborough of Hastings, Ne. 1 sister Norma (Bill) Kryger of Missouri, 4 grandchildren Amber, Jesse (Marcy), Ammie (Roger), Ashly (Isaac) and 1 step grandson Dustin. and 5 great grandchildren. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, son Gary, and two sisters Rita and Helen.
