Funeral services for Joan Ethel Welte age 89 of Ansley, NE. will be held on Monday June 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow, NE. with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Ansley Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1-4:00 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary with a Christian Wake Service being held at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Joan was born to Joe and Anna (Meiergerd) Kunz on May 26, 1925 in Stuart, NE. She attended school in Stuart, NE. and graduated in May of 1943. After graduation she worked on the family farm while her brothers served in the military. On June 3, 1957 she was united in marriage to Grant T. Welte and to this union three children were born. In April 1974, she lost the love of her life, Grant. She then embarked on a career as a cook at Ansley High School. She loved to cook, but more importantly she enjoyed being a part of watching students growing to young adults. After retiring she began the most important and fulfilling job, being “Gram” to her grandson Cole. This was something she never grew weary of. Joan always enjoyed a cup of coffee and conversation as she never knew a stranger. As the years began to make getting around difficult she still had many friends and family who stopped by just to chat. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ansley until it closed in 2004. She then became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow. She was a proud member of the Ansley American legion Auxiliary for fifty plus years. On June 19, 2014 she decided she needed to rest. Joan is survived by her son Brice Welte of Lincoln and daughter Michelle (Dan) Mills and grandson Cole of Ansley. Two brothers, Max (Helen) Kunz and Rollie Kunz all of Stuart, NE. and numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Grant and infant son Kyle, her parents, two brothers Paul and Frederick Kunz and one sister Katherine Winkler.
