Carol Nadine Spanel, age 81 of Broken Bow, Ne. died Friday June 27, 2014 at Off Broadway Apartments in Broken Bow.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 1, 2014 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow at 11 a.m. with Father Hugh Spanel officiating. Burial will be in Saint Anselms Catholic Cemetery at Anselmo, Ne. Visitation will be Monday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church with family greeting friends 6 p.m to 7 p.m. at the church.
Carol N. Spanel was born January 27, 1933 at Merna, Ne. to Levi Duffie and Thelma (Johnson) Cantrell. She attended Merna public School. On June 14, 1950 Carol married Paul Spanel at Anselmo, Ne. They made their home on a farm in New Helena area for 8 years, and later farmed in the Ortello Valley Community for 23 years. In 1981, they retired and moved to Broken Bow.
Carol was active in the Altar society in both Saint Anselms Church and Saint Joseph Church. Carol and Paul were members of flying farmers, and Carol was the Nebraska State Queen in 1975 of flying farmers.
Carol is survived by 3 sons Jim and Jill Spanel of Lincoln, Ne, Tom and Cindy Spanel of Amarillo, Tx., and Dan and Lisa Spanel of Souix City, Iowa. 1 daughter Shari and David Beals of Merna, Ne. 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, brother Leland, and infant son Robert.
