Gwendolyn Roberta Olson age 92 of Broken Bow died August 3, 2014 at the Custer Care Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held Friday August 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary with Rev. Glen Emert officiating. Interment will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Custer Care Center. Visitation will be held Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Gwendolyn Roberta Johnson Olson was born March 26, 1922, the second daughter of Robert Hall and Osia May Housel Johnson in the family home, a sod house, in the Dry Valley Community. Gwen graduated from Dry Valley High School in the class of 1940. She moved with her parents, to Broken Bow in 1942 where she worked in the County Treasurer's office until December of 1945. She and Emil Olson were married after his return form WWII on January 22, 1946. To this union one daughter, Pamela Sue, was born. Gwen and Emil resided on a farm northeast of Berwyn in the Spencer Park Community for 45 years. They retired from the farm in January of 1991 and moved to Broken Bow. Gwen then worked at the Gateway Motel for a number of years. She is a member of the Broken Bow United Methodist Church, and was a member of the WHO Circle of UMW, the Sunflower Club of Berwyn, and the VFW Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband Emil, her sister Kathryn and her husband Leland "Boots" McCaslin, and her parents. She is survived by her daughter Pam Olson Campbell and her husband, Kent of Littleton, CO., her granddaughter Britta Campbell Copt, her husband, Nate, and great grandson Campbell of Golden, CO. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law Maxine Wright of Broken Bow, Geri Olson of Colorado Springs, CO., her brother-in-law Ben Rivers of Manhattan, KS., and her neices and nephews.
