Broken Bow, NE- Leo Schmid, age 83 of Broken Bow, died Tuesday September 2, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Funeral services will be held on Monday September 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday September 7, 2014, 1 PM to 5 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary. A Rosary service will be held Sunday evening at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 7 PM.
Leo Michael Schmid was born on December 6, 1930 at Mason City, NE to Charles and Colia (Burnett) Schmid. Leo attended school through the 8th grade at Mason City. He then went to work for Clint Whitehead to learn how to fix watches and clocks. He then worked for Dittmar Jewelry Store in Broken Bow and Hoover’s Jewelry in North Platte. Leo opened Schmid’s Jewelry in Broken Bow from 1982 to 1993. In 1993 he moved his shop to his home until 2013. He went to Golden Living Center in December 2013.
Leo liked to do wood work and go for coffee. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
He was married to Lois Powers on September 6, 1971 at Harlan, Iowa. They had one daughter Becky.
Leo is survived by his wife Lois of Broken Bow, daughter Becky Schmid of Broken Bow, brothers; Harvey Schmid of Lincoln, and Dean (Carolyn) Schmid of Albion, a sister Peggy Dye of West Point, and a brother in law Eugene Chartraw of Mason City. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters; a brother and two infant brothers.
