Lester Elliot Baller, a resident of Heritage Hall for the last five years, passed away on October 10, 2014 at Heritage Hall. Lester celebrated his 101st birthday on August 12, 2014.
Lester was born on August 12, 1913 to Frank and Ethel “Lizzy” (Elliot) Baller in York County, near McCool Junction, NE. Lester had one brother and one sister. He grew up in the Callaway and Broken Bow area.
Lester was united in marriage to Helen Glendy on June 1, 1935. To this union three children were born: a son Lesley and two daughters Anita Kay and Rita Joy. In 1950, he moved his family into Broken Bow. He was employed by
CO-OP as a fuel delivery driver. He took pride in his work there, and enjoyed being of service to his customers. He retired in 1975. Mrs. Baller passed away in 1996. After retiring he enjoyed socializing at the City Café, and bowling a couple nights a week at Pleasure Lanes in Broken Bow. Also one of his past times was attending the Junior Legion Baseball games. In 2008 he was presented an autographed baseball by the team as the “Most Loyal Fan.” Lester remained bowling until the age of 96 years old.
Lester was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents Frank and Lizzy, two daughters: Anita Kay Schweitzer and Rita Joy Alexander, two grandchildren: Ryan Schweitzer and Lisa Alexander, his sister Beulah Otto, and his brother James Baller.
Lester is survived by his son Lesley Baller and wife Marilyn, of Omaha, four granddaughters, nine great grandchildren, two son-in-laws: Ron Schweitzer of Comstock and Elmer Alexander of North Platte, nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday October 16, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Broken Bow Cemetery with Gary Morgan officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 15, 2014, 8 AM to 8 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary with the family greeting friends 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
