John Junior Scott, better known as Jack, was born on September 29, 1927 To John David and Elizabeth (Holmes) Scott, on a farm South and East of Westerville NE. He passed from this earthly life at his home, on October 29, 2014 at the age of 87 years and 1 month of age. In his early years Jack lived on several farms with his family until settling on the family homestead 4 miles north of Westerville where he lived most of the rest of his live except for the 4 years he served this great nation in the navy and then for the 3 years that he spent with his wife managing apartments and hotels in California and Texas. Jack was educated in the local country school as everyone was in those days, and for high school, he attended the Dry Valley High School for 2 years and completed his school education at Ansley in 1944. After high school he worked on the family farm and also worked for the Charles Brown family near Westerville. Jack moved to California for a while, to work in the vineyards where his brother Marvin owned an orange grove and his brother Bill was also working. He would send part of his paycheck back home to his Dad and Mom to pay expenses on the farm because of the drought. In 1951 Jack enlisted in the Navy to serve his nation during the Korean Conflict and also on December 23rd of that year he was joined in marriage to Lavera May McGrew. Jack was stationed out of Hawaii and Lavera was able to join him there for only a few short months at the end of his enlistment as he served most of his time overseas on the Destroyer Escort 634 USS Whitehurst. He was very proud of his country and also being able to serve her. After being discharged from the Navy in 1954 he and Lavera moved to the family farm and took over as his father had a disabling stroke and was unable to maintain the work needed. They cared for both his Mom and Dad until their deaths. Three children were born into this union Mary Elizabeth, Randy Lee, and Gary Lloyd. These were happy times for Jack, as he and Lavera got to raise their children on the farm watch them grow. Jack enjoyed going to all the events that his children were in even when Randy was in his early 50’s He and Lavera would somehow show up to a softball game. Jack loved to farm and did so and did fulltime until 1988 when he returned to California to manage an apartment complex and Randy bought the farm. Not getting farming out of his blood he returned to help on the family farm but also to help his nephew, Duane. Jack was a member of the American Legion Post 153, of Ansley and was honored this past May for 60 years of continuous membership. He served in many capacities and Offices during this 60 years and continued to love his membership until his death. Jack was preceded in death by his son Gary, his father and mother, his brothers Marvin and Bill and their wives Vivian and Gladys, and Nephew David Scott and his wife Sheryl.
