On December 15, 2014 Bertini Joyner Talbot passed away peacefully at Heritage Hall at JMMC where she had lived for the past five years. Those who knew her know firsthand how loving, kind and gracious she was, and she will be sorely missed by so very many people. Her love and grace made her one of a kind and she can now be at peace with her Savior.
Bertini was born on April 12, 1909 to parents Grove Ortello Joyner and Rosella Fodge Joyner in the family home just north of North Park School. She was educated in the Broken Bow school system and also studied at the University of Nebraska . In 1929 she married Orin H. Talbot, also from Broken Bow, and together they began a 58 year journey together . She and Orin were both from Custer County pioneer families, and most of her 105 years were spent as a resident of Broken Bow. Ortello Valley was actually named after her father.
Over 90 years ago she became a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church and served the church in many capacities . Her church was of utmost importance and she donated endless hours of her time. Her devotion to the Church music, choirs and special programs was very important to her. As a gifted musician, many current members still remember her as the organist for so many years . In addition to her many musical talents, Bertini was quite creative and her artistry remains in the form of many heirlooms that will be cherished by her family forever.
Her family meant the world to Bertini and she was certainly the dignified family Matriarch. Many friends and all of her remaining family will always cherish the time they spent with her. Bertini was preceded in death by her loving husband, Orin H. Talbot, and two sons, Charles N. Talbot and Tom Talbot. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Talbot Shinn (Richard), son Ted Talbot (Deb), daughter-in-law Ginger Talbot, grandsons Douglas Shinn (Ann Marie), Mike Shinn (Brenda), Bruce Shinn (Noreen), Brad Shinn (Julie), and granddaughter Erin Talbot. Additionally, she leaves behind eight adoring great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren .
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a future date. The family requests that any memorials in Bertini Talbot's name be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Broken Bow Public Schools Foundation I Little Feet Big Dreams Project.
