Mary Ellen Thomas, age 91 of Eddyville, died January 17, 2015 at the St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Kearney.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 24, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Burr Oak Community Church, with a lunch following. After the lunch, burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday 8 AM to 8 PM with the family greeting friends 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to the Burr Oak Church or the Homeward Trail Bible Camp at Mason City, NE.
Mary Ellen (Beattie) Thomas was born on June 30, 1923 in Sumner, NE. She was united to Glenn Thomas on April 5, 1943. Four children were born to that union, Sharon, Francis (Tom), Shirley and R.J.
Following a heart attack and stroke she resided at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Kearney, since November 5, 2007.
Mary Ellen attended grade school at Jewel country school close to the farm where she lived with her parents. She attended High School in Sumner. Glenn and she lived in Oregon after the war was over. In 1948 they bought a farm south of Broken Bow. Mary Ellen was a loving housewife, mother, and grandmother. She was very active in the Burr Oak Community Church, Christian Women’s in Broken Bow, Farm Bureau and Homeward Trail Bible Camp in Mason City.
Mary Ellen is survived by her children; Sharon Johnston of Kearney, Francis Thomas and wife Judy of Rushville, NE, Shirley Taber and husband Elmer of Brookesmith, TX, RJ and wife Anne of Broken Bow, twelve grandchildren, many great grandchildren, her sister Billie Cline of Phoenix, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, in 1984, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Beattie, brothers Howard Beattie and Gerald Beattie, plus a host of other relatives and friends.
