Maxine Hyatt

January 30, 1918 — January 25, 2015

Oma Maxine Hyatt, age 96, passed from this life on Sunday morning, January 25, at Heritage Hall in Broken Bow NE. Maxine was born to Lloyd and Eulalia (Smith) Hyatt on January 30, 1918 near Merna Nebraska. She was raised in rural Custer County and learned at an early age the value of honesty and hard work from her parents and grandparents. She accepted Christ as her Savior as a young girl and was baptized on July 2, 1933. She graduated from Anselmo High School with the class of 1935 and began her working career with the NYO in Broken Bow, then Baker Studio and in 1949 became a “telephone girl” with Northwestern Bell until they moved the operators to Grand Island. Because she didn’t want to leave the area she started another career and on August 11, 1967 she received her cosmetology license. She retired in 2002. In November of 2003 she moved from Merna into an apartment in Broken Bow and eventually into Heritage Hall where she received loving care from a very concerned and dedicated staff. The staff and residents became her “extended” family. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and brother-in-law, Josephine and Raymond Butler, Evelyn Hyatt and Betty Hyatt of Merna and one Great Nephew Bill Horton of Eden North Carolina. Along with her cherished and loyal friend, Roberta Davis, she leaves to morn her two nieces, Eulalia (Curtis) Scotton of Eden North Carolina and Linda (Monte) Morrison of Alliance NE.; Great Nephews and Nieces Brian (Becky), Kevin (Wendy), Ramon (Lynn) Scotton and Melanie Horton of North Carolina; Jeff (Kris) of Firth, Jeremy (Coleen) Morrison and Jodi (Joe) Ringbauer of Alliance Nebraska. Several great-great nieces and nephews in North Carolina and Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary and grave side service on Wednesday January 28th at 2:00 p.m. at the Merna Cemetery.
