Barbara (Barb) Rae (Ferguson) Wells a long time resident of Broken Bow died Friday February 13th 2015 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 68.
Barb was born on January 13, 1947 to Ivan and Donita Ferguson in Broken Bow Nebraska. Barb graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1965. After High School Barb married Carlie J. Wells and they worked for several Ranches in Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota. To this marriage they welcomed 5 children, Corrina, Carla, Carey, Carlie, and Carmen. After moving back to Broken Bow in 1975, Barb worked as a CNA at Sandhills Manor. Later Barb started employment with the Broken Bow Schools as a Bus Driver and Teachers Aid. Barb especially enjoyed transporting students to various school activities. Prior to her retirement Barb worked for 12 years as a jailer for the Custer County Sheriff Office. Throughout her career Barb worked part-time as a cook for both the Broken Bow Elks and Broken Bow Country Club. After her retirement she kept busy helping her two daughters Carla Davis and Carmen Bumgarner do various jobs. Barb had a strong work ethic that was passed on to all of her children.
Barb loved to watch Husker football games, and especially loved following her son Carlie’s coaching career. Barb was an avid reader, enjoyed playing saduka and watching her grandkids participate in sporting events. She enjoyed spending time in her pool in the back yard especially when the grand kids stopped by. Barb also taught swimming lessons to numerous kids over the years. Barb loved animals and many homeless pets found a home with her.
Barb was preceded in death by her Father Ivan Ferguson and adopted Grandmother Ione Luther.
Survivors include her five children Corrina Ducker of Grand Island, Ne., Carla (Chuck) Davis of Broken Bow, Ne, Carey (Jim) Haskell of Ainsworth, Ne, Carlie (Kimberly) Wells of Grant, and Carmen (Anson) Bumgarner of Broken Bow. Grandchildren include Andrew Ducker, Preston Ducker, Alexandria Davis, Scott Davis, Amy Haskell, Jace Haskell, Sawyer Bumgarner, Ida Mae Bumgarner. Cyrus Wells, Connor Wells, Cal Wells and Cobe Wells. She also had 6 great grand children. Survivors also include her mother Donita Ferguson of Broken Bow, Sisters Opal Kuhl of Lafayette, IN, Nancy Ferguson (Ran Varney) of Broken Bow, and a brother Ivan Ferguson Jr. of Kansas City, KS.
Services will be held Wednesday February 18th at 3:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow Nebraska with Minister Kathy Salts officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday February 17th 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Bros. Mortuary with family greeting friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Broken Bow Booster Club.
