Sargent, NE – Richard Keefe age 71 of Sargent, died Thursday March 5, 2015 as result of an automobile accident near Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 11, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sargent with Father James Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Dry Valley Cemetery near Comstock. Memorials are suggested to the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will be held on Tuesday 5 PM to 6 PM at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sargent. A Rosary service will be held on Tuesday evening at 6 PM at the Church. Richard Morris Keefe was born on August 22, 1943 at Ord, Nebraska to Morris and Therese (Hansen) Keefe. The family lived in Burwell. When Richard was in the 5th grade, the family moved to the ranch near Sargent. He graduated from Sargent High School in 1961. On August 14, 1963 Richard was married to the “Love of his life”, Carol Harris, at the Catholic Church in Sargent. The couple moved to St. Paul and Richard worked for Bushman Construction. In 1966, he went to work for Sperry-New Holland plant in Grand Island. The family moved to Grand Island in 1968, and in 1972 they moved north of Cairo, NE. In 1999, Richard retired from Sperry-New Holland and moved to the ranch near Sargent. Richard went to work at the Broken Bow Sale Barn on Thursday’s. He loved Thursday morning breakfast with the crew at the barn. Richard was a member of the Catholic Church in Sargent, enjoyed traveling, his cattle, coyote hunting, and just being outside. The light of Richard’s life was his family, he loved being with them. Richard is survived by his wife Carol of Sargent, daughters; Lorie (Andy) Spanel of Sargent, Kellie (Donald) Woodman of Louviers, CO, Tamie (Troy) Huff of Grand Island, Tracie (Randy) Hill of St. Paul, and Valarie Keefe of Kearney, 6 grandchildren; Richard Spanel, Rebecca (Brian) Haumont, Rachele Spanel, Brittany Hill, Trevor Hill, and Hannah Huff, siblings; Patsy (Larry) Young, Karla (Tom) Knott, Matthew Keefe, and Kim White, and a special nephew Jason Young. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jimmy, Grandparents; Carl and Ida Hansen, and Matt and Mary Keefe, father and mother in-law; Floyd and Thelma (Plock) Harris, nephews Marty Harris and Justin Young, and a niece Jos Anderson. .
