Ansley, NE- Eugene “Chat” R. Chartraw, age 90 of Ansley, died Thursday June 18, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society St. John’s Nursing Home in Kearney.
Funeral services will be held on Monday June 22, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM at the Ansley Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held on Sunday June 21, 1 PM to 5 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow. A rosary service will be held on Sunday evening at 5 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Program.
Eugene was born on the family farm near Mason City on August 11, 1924 to Raphael and Amanda (Schmidt) Chartraw. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1943. From 1943-1946 Eugene proudly served his country during WWII. He fought in the Third Army under General Patton.
In 1946 Eugene returned to the family farm and married the love of his life Frances Schmid on March 18, 1947 in Broken Bow. They remained on the family farm all of their married life. To this union three children were born; Connie, Bonnie and Michael.
Eugene and Frances enjoyed dancing, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Eugene is survived by a daughter Connie Miller of Milford and a son Michael and wife Joanne (Krause) Chartraw of Lincoln, 4 granddaughters; Teresa Honeycutt, Jennifer (Jeff) Schweitzer, Tina (Dave) Barger, and Mallory Chartraw, 7 great grandchildren, Logan, Jacob, Jenna, Jaxon, Hailey, Levi, and Legacy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, infant daughter Bonnie, and a sister Irdell Chase
