Merritt Winchester

October 21, 1938 — June 20, 2015

Merritt Sherman Winchester Jr. age 76, of Broken Bow, Ne. died Saturday June 20, 2015 at the Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the E-Free Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Brian Klein officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 10:00 AM to 8 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family to be decided on at a later date. Merritt was born on October 21, 1938 to Merritt and Dorothy (Florea) Winchester Sr. in Merna, NE. He grew up in Custer Center where he attended rural country school. He then attended Broken Bow High School where he graduated class of 1956. Merritt married Erma (Dramse) Winchester on July 26, 1959. From this union were two children; Nick and Rhonda. After graduating, Merritt joined the National Guard for 6 years. After he began working at Ford Garage as a car detailer and then for car parts stores for 25 years in sales, later retiring from Broken Bow Power Plant after 21 years of service. His hobbies consisted of restoring classic cars, playing dances, drawing/painting, and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchild. He is survived by his wife Erma Winchester of Broken Bow, NE, son Nick (Rhonda Guernsey) Winchester and their children Brandi (Jordan) Tucker, Vincent Winchester, Joseph Winchester, and Shelby Winchester of Kearney, NE and their daughter Rhonda (Walt Myers) and their children Allycia (Logan) McMullen of Omaha, NE, Blain Myers, Luke Myers and Tamara Myers of Merna, NE, and one great grandchild Jake Myers of Merna, NE and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Merritt was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Viola Eacker, Julia Russell, and Albert Winchester.
