Holdrege, NE- John “Jack” Stevenson age 84 of Holdrege died Friday July 17, 2015 at the Bryan LGH West Hospital in Lincoln, NE surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow, NE is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Monday evening 7 PM to 8:30 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. John “Jack” James Stevenson was born on August 31, 1930 in Concordia, KS to George and Elizabeth (Tieking) Stevenson. He grew up in Concordia, KS and graduated from Republican City High School. Jack enlisted in the US Army, and served in Korea from 1951-1954. On April 13, 1951, Jack was married to Virginia Landreth and they were blessed with three children Mike, Gary and Carla. After 40 years of marriage, Virginia passed in 1991. Jack was a Gibson retail store manager for most of his life and he and Virginia spent most of their years together in Great Bend, KS where they raised their family.
On July 4, 1992 Jack was married to Julie (Maxson) Meston in Branson, MO. Jack and Julie lived at various locations throughout the Midwest most recently residing in Holdrege, NE.
Jack loved watching baseball games especially when his grandchildren were playing. He was also an ardent supporter of the National Champion Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps of Great Bend, KS.
Jack is survived by his wife Julie of Holdrege, sons; Mike and wife Cindy Stevenson of Fort Collins, CO; Gary Stevenson of Cape Girardeau, MO; Carla and husband Phil Drescher of Olathe, KS; step daughter Stephanie and husband Dave Anderson of Broken Bow; 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sisters; Margie Smith of Washington, Mary Rose Miller of Arizona, and Joan Suebert of Washington, and a brother Tom Stevenson of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia, brothers; Charles and Mick, sisters; Dee and Barbara, and a step son Jimmy Dean Meston.
