Dorothy Province

Broken Bow, NE – Dorothy Province age 94, passed from this early life to her heavenly home on August 1, 2015 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow. Dorothy was born on September 10, 1920 to Roy Edward and Frances Ellen (Wagner) Thompson in Victoria Township of Anselmo, Nebraska. She graduated from Anselmo High School in 1938. In September of 1938 she was united in marriage to LeRoy W. Philpot and to this union were born two daughters, Janet Marie and Elnora Rae. In 1946 she was joined in marriage to Howard D. Province and to this union were born Wesley Howard and Donald Kent. Dorothy was baptized in October of 1948 in the E.U.B. Church, which later united with the Methodist and became the United Methodist Church. She was a devoted and active lifelong member. Dorothy was co-owner and bookkeeper for Province Plumbing for over 60 years. She was a member of the P.T.A., Cosmopolitan Club, Wildlife Club, a Rebekah for 62 years and American Legion Auxiliary for 66 years. She was, also, Mayor of the City of Broken Bow, NE, when the ladies took over running the city for a day. In 1962 she took the Dale Carnegie Course. She went on many trips over the years, Missouri, Colorado, Hawaii, Wisconsin Dells, European, but her most memorable one was to the Holy Lands in 1984. She was an avid poem writer and wrote a poem about each one of her trips. She wrote poems for all kinds of special occasions and whenever the mood struck. She and John Talbot wrote a poem “In the Days of Old Nebraska”, during Nebraska’s Centennial, which was used on stationary throughout the state and later put to music by Little Vern Davis and recorded on a 45 rpm. She felt so blessed by her family and church family. She was great at sending cards for birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions, many times including a poem. She is survived by her daughters; Janet (Lewis) Myers of Merna, NE, and Elnora (Kent) McCloughan of Loveland, CO; sons; Wesley (Cathy) Province and Don (Kathy) Province of Broken Bow and a step-son, Charles Province of Anselmo. Grandchildren; Debra (Steve) Hostick of Merna, Rebecca (Joel) Bartak of Anselmo, David (Mindy) McCloughan of Loveland, CO, Mark (Michelle) McCloughan of Johnstown, CO, Scot (Jessica) McCloughan of Leesburg, VA, Justin (Deena) Province, Jeremy (Kerry) Province of Broken Bow, Nathan (Ellen) Province of Kearney, Wendy (Nicholas) Georgiana of North Mankato, MN, Jason (Kayleen) Province of Broken Bow, and Nicholas (Karisa) Province of Kearney, step grandchildren; Shaun Province of Lincoln and Karol (Mark) Peck of Grand Island, 28 great grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and 7 step great great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Betty Thompson of Omaha, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Edward Alan Thompson, Charles Bryan Thompson, George Albert Thompson, Leslie “Bud” Eugene Thompson, and Robert Dean Thompson, one granddaughter, Angela Province, 2 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 5, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with Reverend Glen Emert officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 4, 2015, 8 AM to 8 PM with the family greeting friends 6 PM to 7 PM at Govier Bros. Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Asera Care Hospice or the United Methodist Church.
