Anna Marie Wanitschke Robison was born February 15, 1926 to Joseph and Dorothy (Karnes) Wanitschke in their home on the table west of Merna, NE. Ann attended several country schools in the Merna and Broken Bow area. After finishing the 10th grade at Ryno School, Ann went on to complete High School in Broken Bow, graduating in 1944.
Who could have known but God alone that beautiful love stories would begin in 1879 when Paul Robison's ancestors settled Tappan Valley in Custer County. Then, Joseph Wanitschke, at the age 15, left Czechoslovakia for the U.S. He was sponsored by the Knoell family that lived near New Helena, as did the family of Dorothy Karnes. Through these family lineages came Anna Wanitschke and R. Paul Robison. Ann was united in marriage to R. Paul Robison on June 20, 1948 in Broken Bow, NE. It had been a very wet June and Ann's parents were unable to maneuver the muddy country roads to get to the wedding in time, so Ann's Uncle Herbert Stevens walked Ann down the aisle. Even though it was a stormy wedding day, the marriage was not, as Ann and Paul celebrated the 67th Wedding Anniversary this past June. However, another young man stole Ann's heart on April 6, 1954 and his name was Michael Paul Robison. Michael (Mike) was the only child of Ann and Paul, he was Ann's pride and joy. This joy was multiplied when Mike married Kris Engel. To this union were born Ann's two grandsons, Jeremy Paul and Jacob Michael Robison.
Ann and Paul resided in Broken Bow for their entire wedded life. Ann worked at J.C. Penney and as a nurse's aide when the Melham Medical Center was first opened. For 36 years, Ann and Paul were janitors at the First Presbyterian Church. Ann was a fabulous cook and enjoyed having the neighborhood ladies over for coffee while they waited for their children to come home from school. The neighborhood kids looked forward to cookies from Ann, even though Paul would try to charge you for a cookie. She was also one of the original "scrap bookers". If Ann knew you and your picture or name was in the paper, Ann cut it out and placed it in one of her many scrap books. They truly are a historical record of her friends and family.
Ann is survived by her husband Paul; son Michael and wife Kris of Merna; one brother, Frank of Grand Island and one sister, Virginia Bohl of Loup City. Grandsons Jeremy and wife Gracia of Lincoln and Jacob Robison of Merna. Two great-grandchildren Olivia and Owen Robison of Lincoln. Brother-in-law Roy Cadwalder of Grand Island and sisters-in-law Irma Wanitschke of Derby, KS and Donna Wanitschke of Grand Island, NE. She also leaves behind a special cousin and friend, Ruth Sloggett, as well as many other family members and friends.
Ann was preceeded in death by her parents; brothers, Hubert, Charles and George; sister Mary Cadwalder and brother-in-law Darold Bohl.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church.
