Eleanor Johnson

September 30, 1922 — August 26, 2015

Eleanor was born September 30, 1922 at her farm home. She was the daughter of August E. Bratten and Minnie R. Thompson Bratten. Eleanor was eldest of four children. She graduated from Brady High School May of 1940. She began immediately to teach rural school for two years, one at Maxwell, Nebraska and one year at North Vroman. Then she attended Kearney College and taught three more years at North Vroman. She married Willard C. Johnson of Gothenburg Nebraska on November 14, 1945. They began their married life on their farm home on the Rock Island Table north of Gothenburg Nebraska. God blessed this union with three children: Larry Dean Johnson, Delane Eugene Johnson and Marlene Kay Johnson Davidson. Willard and Eleanor moved to Broken Bow Nebraska after spending their first eleven years on the farm. She continued to be a mother and wife when she joined Becton Dickenson Pharmaceutical plant in Broken Bow. She was known for her strict attention to detail and worked for BD for 23 ½ years. Eleanor and Willard worked day and night to help build the Berean Church in Broken Bow. If a pastor and family needed to eat or sleep in Broken Bow, Eleanor always had the home open and meals fixed. Willard and Eleanor joined The Gideon’s International in 1954. They served faithfully in this global ministry both of them until their death. Eleanor was known as a prayer warrior, as was Willard. Countless hour sere spent on their knees praying for friends, family, and the goings on in and around Broken Bow. If there was a church function being held, Willard and Eleanor were the first to arrive and the last to depart. Serving and pursuing Christ was their life goal. They took countless trips to the Gideon’s International Convention, and took kids and grandkids. When Willard had a church service for the Gideon’s, Eleanor was always in the service with Willard. She was a faithful wife, a prayer warrior, a loving mother, and an unbelievable grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her sister Norene Evangeline Bratten Anderson of Gothenburg Nebraska, sister in law Crystal Fenner Johnson of Broken Bow, a cousin Helen Jean Johnson of Gothenburg, three children, Larry in Grant, Nebraska. Delane and Joyce in Seattle Washington, and Jim and Marlene Davidson in Lincoln Nebraska. Eleanor has 9 grandchildren: Chad, Tyler, Melissa and Celeste Johnson –children of Larry. David and Jeffrey Johnson - children of Delane and Joyce Johnson, and Anna, Sara and Mary daughters of Jim & Marlene Davidson. She also has twenty great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, August and Minnie Bratten, brothers Winifred and Dale Bratten and her husband Willard C. Johnson. Eleanor has departed this life and has gone to glory to be with the Lord her Savior forever. She will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Friday September 4, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Berean Church in Broken Bow, NE with Pastors Bryan Clark, Larry DeMoss, and Tyce Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements.
