Orin Lloyd Scofield passed away November 24, 2015 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home. He was 86 years old.
He was born to Earl and Katie (Bartas) Scofield in Burwell, NE, December 2, 1928 . He was the second child born into a family of eight children. Through great determination on his part, he graduated from Burwell High School; living and working in town to pay for room and board so he could attend school. He rode his pony to and from town and to visit his parents, snow storms and all in order to graduate.
Orin spent many years working heavy equipment doing road construction, ranching and raising cattle and kids, selling seed corn and finally settled on a long-term career in pest control. He loved his many pest control customers, most of whom quickly became his friends. Orin's love of horses and ponies never diminished. He taught all of his kids to ride and all of his grandkids. When he ran out of those, he worked with many small children in the community that came to know and love him and respect his knowledge of horses and how to ride and show them.
In 1953 he married Dolores Rasmussen, after some moving about, they settled in Broken Bow in 1961, that marriage ended in divorce. They had three children who survive him: Joan L. Rosenquist (Kim) of Delta, CO., Dann D. Scofield (Terrie), of Broken Bow and Don D. Scofield (Kim) also of Broken Bow. He is survived by nine grandchildren who were the delight of his life: Ryan and Kyle Bixenmann, Breena Edwards (Scofield), Seth Scofield, Lynzie Hayes (Scofield), Ben Vogt and Baily Husmann (Vogt), and Patrick and Katie Scofield. He is also survived by three brothers: Mervin Scofield (Glada) of Grand Island, NE, Larry Scofield (Kim) of Oceanside, CA and Ron Scofield (Susan) of Vertigre, NE, and one sister Ella Mae Mcintosh (Ralph) of Broken Bow.
Orin was preceded in death by his parents, Katie and Earl, his wife of 25 years, Dolores, his brother Harold, and sisters Kathryn Ritter and Vernie Clark.
Orin loved and enjoyed his family. He and his wife hauled carloads of giggling cheerleaders all over Nebraska to all kinds of sporting events to support his daughter and her friends. They spent countless hours watching their sons and their friends wrestle, rodeo and show horses. He loved to dance, play cards, was always eager to tell you the latest joke and that's how he would want to be remembered. "When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure."
