Mamie Artie Miller, 88 of Broken Bow, died December 22, 2015 at the Callaway Good Life Center in Callaway, Nebraska. She was born December 26, 1926 in Merna, Nebraska to George and Mamie (Mizer) Prescott. Mamie was the youngest of seven children. Mamie attended school in Merna, Nebraska graduating in 1944. On December 27, 1946, she married Alvin Miller in Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union was born one daughter Alberta. In 1946 Mamie started her long-time clerk career at the VanNess Hardware Store in Anselmo, Nebraska. In 1948, she took a job at the Variety Store in Broken Bow which became Ben Franklin in 1949. Mamie continued to help customers in a variety of departments for 45 years, spending the greatest number of years in the craft department located in the basement. Helping customers with crafts was one of her favorite jobs. In 1994, Mamie retired so she could travel to her grandsons sporting events and to work on her own craft projects. Mamie kept true to her desire by creating her own projects including quilts and afghans which she enjoyed giving to family members. In her retirement years, Mamie continued to be an active member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed serving on committees and was often the one giving other members rides to church. She especially enjoyed her Guild Church Circle and sharing her talent with the Quilters. Mamie spent many hours volunteering her time at retirement homes making donuts. On Mondays you would see Mamie working at Community Connections in downtown Broken Bow. Mamie is survived by her daughter, Alberta (Kirk) Crawley of Broken Bow, NE, grandsons; Nick Shea of Broken Bow, NE and Tom Shea of Lincoln, NE. Nephews Richard (Bonnie) Jackson of Fleming, CO, George (Pat) Jackson of Broken Bow, NE, Ken (Marilyn)Jackson and Leonard (Carol) Prescott all of Lincoln, NE, Wayne (Darlene) Bell of Bigfork, MT, and Jerry (Jo) Bell of San Diego, CA, and numerous great nephews and nieces. Mamie is preceded in death by her husband Alvin, her brothers Charles, Grant, and John (Jack) Prescott, her sisters, Nora (Bell) Faig, Ethel Southard, and Pauline Jackson and her parents George and Mamie Prescott. Funeral Services will be held December 24, 2015 10:00AM at the United Methodist Church, Broken Bow, Nebraska with Pastor Todd Karges officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM with family greeting guest from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary, Broken Bow. Nebraska. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Broken Bow United Methodist Church. Govier Brothers Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
