While stationed in California, Gary met Vickie Croft at a dance just three weeks before he was sent overseas. Gary and Vickie continued to correspond throughout the year he spent in South Korea. Gary worked at Cardinal Industries Finishes in El Monte, California, working up from paint manufacturer to salesman to part owner of the company before moving back to Sargent in August of 1976. He became part owner in Grint Farm Supply and worked for over 20 years before retiring in 1996. Gary coached Little League baseball, enjoyed bowling, gardening, and taking his family to their cabin in Green Valley Lake, CA. Gary was a member of the American Legion Post #104, held office on the Sargent Hospital Board, and a member of the Sargent United Methodist Church. Gary and Vickie had enjoyed Arizona in the winter from 2003 to 2010 as well as camping at the Calamus Lake in the summer time.
