Jo Ann Porter Rohde was born the fourth child of Ralph and Anabel (Huff) Porter in rural Ansley on February 3, 1933. She departed this life on January 11, 2016, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings at the age of 82. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Ansley Public School with the class of 1950. She was united in marriage to Amil Dobesh and to this union 4 children were born, Dale Arthur, Joel Bradley, Amy Alison, and Mark Daniel. They resided on a farm south of Ansley where they engaged in farming and ranching. Amil died in an accident in 1969, and Jo remained on the family farm and continued to raise cattle. In addition to being a rancher, Jo also clerked at the Sargent and Lexington sale barns. In 1998 she was united in marriage to Glenn Rohde, and they made their home in Sumner. He preceded her in death in 2013. Due to failing health in 2013, Jo moved to Edgewood Vista Memory Loss Facility in Hastings. She will be remembered for how she lived her life, and not by the disease clouded her memories in later years.
Jo's children and grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of her life. "Grandma Jo" will be remembered for her wonderful cinnamon rolls and donuts, homemade strawberry jam, pancakes, and her love of shoes. There was always a freshly-baked pie for Sunday dinner, and she always sent a plate of goodies home with you. Jo spoke her mind and encouraged her family to be independent thinkers. She loved reading a good book and doing the daily crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her children Dale (Kathy) Dobesh of Ansley; Joe (Paige) Dobesh, Hastings; Amy Bren, Sioux Falls, SD; and Mark Dobesh, Sioux City, IA.
