Kearney, NE – Alice Condon, age 89 of Kearney, formerly of the Anselmo area died Tuesday January 26, 2016 at the CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services will be held on Monday February 1, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Anselmo with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be at the Dale Catholic Cemetery near Merna, NE. A rosary service will be held on Sunday evening January 31, 2016 at 6:00 PM at St. Anselm’s. A visitation will be held Sunday afternoon 5 PM until 7 PM at the St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Anselmo. Memorials will be used for a scholarship in Alice’s name for a student that is studying medicine and in their second year of college.
Alice was born on July 22, 1926 at Anselmo, NE to Patrick and Alta (Clarke) Condon.
Alice attended school in Anselmo until 1943. After finishing her junior year of high school Alice moved with her mother to live with her sister Ellen in Denver. Alice finished high school at Cathedral High School in Denver graduating in 1944. Alice then attended the Mercy College of Nursing and graduated in 1947. In 1948 she moved to Alliance, NE and then to Houston, TX working as a nurse. In 1950 she returned to Nebraska and was employed at the VA Hospital in Lincoln. In 1955 Alice graduated from Creighton University with her Masters Degree in nursing. Alice lived in California for a short time before moving to Denver where she worked for the Denver Public Health Department for 5 years. From 1962 to 1986 Alice was employed at the VA Hospital in Denver retiring in 1986.
After her retirement Alice volunteered at the Aurora, Colorado VA Hospital and the Catholic Church soup kitchen. In the spring of 2009 Alice moved to Kearney, NE and resided at the Regency Retirement Home. The friends that she met at the Regency Retirement Home gave her a spark to enjoy the last 6 years.
Alice loved to travel the world with her friends and family. She also enjoyed play cards.
Survivors of include nieces and nephews; Patricia Wilson of Sanford, FL, Cheryl and Gary Moran of Prescott, AZ, Bill Christen of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Margaret and John Popp of Port Jefferson Station, New York, Bob and Patricia Christen of Holdrege, NE, Alice Hagedorn of Fremont, NE, Rosemary Hemmingsen of Kearney, NE, Paul and Cindy Christen of Anselmo, NE, Matthew and Melba Christen of Ravenna, NE, Jeanne and Chris Gentry of Hyannis, NE, Mark and Robin Christen of Anselmo, NE, Patricia and Fred Wiele of Santa Rosa, CA, Gerald and Melinda Schoppe of Fredericksburg, TX, Lorene Perry of Austin, TX, Charlotte and Jay Knepp of Austin, TX, Janice and Jeff Ledlow of Katy, TX, and Michael Schoppe of Houston, TX.
She is also survived by 37 great nieces and nephews, and 26 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and brothers-in-laws; Mary (Chuck) Wilson, Kathleen (Richard) Christen, Ellen (Conrad) Schoppe and and a nephew Milton Wilson.
