Arcadia, NE- Ralph “Duff” Porter age 87 of Arcadia, died Saturday January 30, 2016 at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday February 4, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Ansley with Pastor Jim Koontz officiating. Burial will be in the Ansley Cemetery. Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements. A register book may be signed at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow. The family requests memorials may be given to the Ansley United Methodist Church or the Arcadia Rescue Unit.
Ralph M. “Duff” Porter was born on May 1, 1928 in rural Ansley to Ralph and Anabel (Huff) Porter. He grew up on the family farm, attended Deem Grade School, and graduated from Ansley High School in 1946. In 1948, he was united in marriage to his high school sweat heart Gleasnor (Bub) Carlson. They were blessed with three children; Susan, Steve and Scott. They farmed and ranched north east of Ansley, and remained there after retirement.
Duff served on the Ansley School Board, and was a member of the Westerville and Ansley United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, square dancing, and golfing with his friends and family. Duff had a wonderful shop where he was vary creative with wood and metal. He will be remembered for how he lived his life, his generosity, and his willingness to help others.
Ralph is survived by his wife Gleasnor of Arcadia, a daughter; Susan (Dan) Van Zandt of Omaha, two sons; Steve Porter of Norfolk, and Scott (Mary) Porter of Omaha; six grandchildren; Derek and David Musselmann of Omaha, Sara Mahalek of Alma, Rachel Porter of San Antonio, TX, Brendan Porter of Omaha, Stephanie Grose of Denver; six great grandchildren, a sister Pamela Berry of Golden, CO, sister-in-laws; Melba Ondrak of Ravenna and Velma Carlson of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clarence (Verlee) Porter, sisters; Penny (Arleigh) Sintek and Jo (Amil Dobesh, Glen Rohde),
in laws; K.C. Carlson, Clayton (Marie) Carlson, Byron (Jackie) Carlson, Gladys (Freeman) Nida, Dale Ondrak, Jack Berry.
