Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements Elva is survived by her son, Donald (Marlyn) of Berwyn, grandsons Lonnie (Cindi) of Berwyn; Scott (Lori) of Broken Bow; and Cody Hanson of Juniata. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jessica of Broken Bow, Justin of Berwyn, and Logan of Broken Bow. Elva Charline (Petet) McCullough was born the 11th of 13 children to E. Birt and Ida May Petet in Blaine County, NE on August 30, 1923. She departed this life on February 20, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Broken Bow, NE at the age of 92. She attended Ansley High School and married Wesley William McCullough on March 30, 1940. To this union, two children were born, Donald Wesley and Rhonda Lea. Most of Elva’s married life was spent in Custer County as a rancher’s wife on the family farm near Berwyn. When her husband’s health declined, they moved to Ansley and later to Broken Bow in 1976. Elva spent many years caring for her husband while he was a resident at the Callaway Good Samaritan Home. She was employed at the William Penn Lodge and also cleaned for several business offices. Elva’s hands were always busy crafting and sewing. She loved her time crafting with her daughter Rhonda. Her summer highlight every year was the Petet Family Picnic, as she would work months ahead on needlework and other items to contribute to the family auction and raffle. She also loved the county fair, entering various handiwork in open class, including a needlepoint judged Best In Custer County in 1989. She frequented many a garage sale and auction, always looking for that special collectible. Christmas was also very special to her, and she insisted that she was not peeking at her presents early. The family always enjoyed her macaroni and cheese, pies, and marshmallow krispies. Elva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wesley, her daughter Rhonda, and her daughter-in-law Sandra. She was also the last living sibling, as her brothers Lemuel, Grant, Bert, Ervin, and Richard and sisters Lillie McCullum, Lydia Dye, Edna Sailor, Sarah Dye, Martha Sickler, Emma Porath, and her twin Eva Charlotte McCullough and their spouses passed before her. Because she loved the county fair time so much, a memorial has been established to the Custer County Ag Society.
